What you do is, once you get a tracking number, you can go to their site and change the shipping stuff. You should be able to select hold at fed ex facility for pickup. There might be some sort of serial number, but I don't see how it would be remotely read. The only number that would be unique to OP's individual Steam Deck is MAC address but those are a) not guaranteed to be unique b) easily changed. Then you can contact Steam Support about it with the information from FEDEX. Usually you should then get a replacement unit and FEDEX will reimburse Valve. Of course since the Steam Deck has a long waiting list and each produced unit is preordered it may take a while till they can send you a replacement.
